GOCART Project (Gender-Oriented Car Acquisition Relationship Testing)

The GOCART Project (Gender-Oriented Car Acquisition Relationship Testing) investigates whether there are gender-specific differences in car ownership and vehicle choice. To do this, vehicle registration data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is analyzed. The goal is to determine whether certain preferences for vehicle types can be identified based on the gender and age of the owners—for example, when it comes to new or used cars.

Key characteristics considered include the gender and age of the vehicle owners, the type of car, and whether the vehicle is new or used. Using statistical analysis, the project aims to identify any clear trends.

One challenge is that gender in the data is typically limited to male or female categories. Other factors, such as the social or economic background of the car owners, may also influence the results.

The research aims to improve our understanding of how gender roles shape mobility behavior. In doing so, the project contributes valuable insights to the broader social discourse on gender and car purchasing.
